About Us

Hi Huw & Bernice here.

August 17th 2010 was a big day in our calendar. That’s the day we decided to look at sailing options, as possible holiday, which then quickly gathered momentum and turned into a full-blown 6-12 month adventure. Within a day or two, our initial peek at, and sign up to, Crewseekers presented us with 4 or 5 possible sailing options. Effectively the possibility of hitch-hiking on yachts. The way it works or should do hopefully, is that yacht skippers advertise for crew for varying passages they are looking to undertake, and you as prospective crew contact them (having paid a sign-up fee) to put yourself forward. If they are comfortable with your credentials and you with their proposal, you both commit to the trip. What we are after are “shared contribution” trips, this way we keep our costs down allowing us ultimately to go further afield, enjoy more sailing and gain more experience. While in itself it sounds simple it really does help if you have some sailing experience to begin with and have some paperwork to show this.

How did we get here?  Well I (Bernice) have just graduated from Central Saint Martins, UAL, London with a BA in Fine Art, and Huw (husband and co-conspiritor) has recently received a tidy redundancy package from his long-term employer.  With both of us at a crossroads and free-agents, it seems like the ideal opportunity, one not to waste, to go on an adventure of some kind.  Huw’s been talking for a while now about selling up and sailing off into the wide blue yonder.  So here we are :O)
